How to build a custom beer pong table

By Master Shake | Thursday, May 21, 2009

Sure, you can buy a beer pong table from a lot of places (including our store).  But sometimes you just want it to have that personal touch, you know?  Sometimes, you just need to build something yourself to truly appreciate its awesomeness.

The guys at Central Cal Beer Pong felt the same way.  That’s why they put together this video that shows you how to build your very own custom beer pong table.  You’ll have to go to a store like Lowe’s to gather the required materials before you get to work.  Not only does a custom beer pong table satisfy your inner handyman, it also satisfies your wallet.

Here’s the video.  Now get to work!

The World Series of Flip Cup: Really, now?

By Master Shake | Wednesday, May 20, 2009

World Series of Flip Cup

No, this is not a joke.  Just as beer pong has expanded out of the realm of ‘college drinking game’, the game of flip cup is looking to become more widely accepted as a real sport.  Or, at least, enough of a sport to warrant its own major league.  But that’s not enough.  Flip cup formed its own prestigious championship tournament - the World Series of Flip Cup.

This year’s tournament will take place on May 30 in Baltimore, MD.  Here’s a blurb about last year’s extravaganza:

Last year 44 teams tried to take down the defending champion “2 Finger Fanatics.” Nobody could do it! Since then they have taken another major victory at the Flip Cup Guy’s World’s Largest Tournament, and they will be back this year to defend the title again. Does your team have what it takes?

You can head over to the World Series of Flip Cup site to check out the locations and times of the regional qualifying tournaments.  Or you can probably read about them in the latest issue of Obscure Sports Quarterly and catch the action on ESPN 8: The Ocho.

Beer pong: An Odd Sport?

By Master Shake | Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Beer PongBaltimore sports site PressBox threw together a list of 15 odd sports.  Now take a guess - what sport was at the top of the list?  Yep, you’ve got it.  Beer pong.

While this list isn’t in order, is there any other “sport” that should be at the top? Just a simple frat-boy drinking game, you say? Not to the nearly 600 participants from 39 states who competed in last year’s World Series of Beer Pong in — where else? — Las Vegas.

While it would be nice if beer pong was taken a bit more seriously, some progress is better than no progress.  Beer pong is taking strides!

Hanging out in Vegas? Play some beer pong

By Master Shake | Monday, May 18, 2009

Beer Pong - BlondiesPocketFives.com is a pretty sweet poker blog that wrote up an interesting article on what you can do in Las Vegas during the World Series of Poker.  An item that was of interest to us (and beer pong fans everywhere) was this:

Beer Pong:

Does the thought of hitting an overtime, game-winning shot with a ping-pong ball sound amazing to you?  I have a spot for you!  Blondies — located in the Miracle Mile shops in Planet Hollywood.  You can play anytime, but call up to find out when they have their weekly beer pong tournaments, $10 entry to win a $200 bar tab!

We love our beer pong and have no doubt that, when mixed with Sin City, the game takes on a whole new level of awesomeness.  I’d personally love to head to Blondies myself and take on all comers in beer pong.  A $200 bar tab as a prize for having fun sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I don’t see murder anywhere in the beer pong rulebook

By Master Shake | Friday, May 15, 2009

I’m sure that’s probably because it isn’t there.  That didn’t stop 24 year-old Joseph Jimenez, who shot and killed 25 year-old Scott Riley after a game of beer pong in Bridgeport, PA.  The two were apparently arguing about the outcome of the game and Jimenez took it upon himself to end the conversation by shooting Riley in the neck.

We understand that there are house rules but none of those rules should involve firearms or murderous activities of any kind.  We do not condone such actions but we can’t let this go without a small crack - we hope this is the last beer pong shot Jimenez takes for a long time.

Strip Beer Pong: The Rules

By Master Shake | Thursday, May 14, 2009

Strip Beer PongThe guys over at Last Cup Standing have compiled a nice set of rules for strip beer pong, a variation of beer pong that involves - well - stripping.

Ever played strip beer pong?  If so, did you play with rules like these or a different set?  Feel free to sound off in the comments.

Bruce Buffer talks beer pong

By Master Shake | Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Bruce BufferMost may know him as the ring announcer for UFC, but did you know that Bruce Buffer has also announced for the World Series of Beer Pong?  Now you do.  FanIQ recently interviewed Buffer and at one point, asked him about his affiliation with the World Series of Beer Pong and where he rated his beer pong skills.

His answer?

“I have never played Beer Pong as after one or two beers I’m usually done… I got a call and a nice financial offer to fly into Vegas and announce their main event only between the two finalists. But it was exciting due to the fact that the ballroom was full of beer drinking fraternity brothers and others from universities around the country and when I walked in the room they went ballistic, which shows how popular the UFC is to college students, so I gave them my all and it was a blast.”

Will we be seeing Bruce at this year’s World Series of Beer Pong?  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
